history

The oldest known farm in the village was a farm in Cologne, which was first mentioned in a document in 1418. The place belonged to the rulership of the Electorate of Cologne and the Altenwied office and gave its name to the " Honnschaft Schöneberg". According to an inventory ordered by Cologne Elector and Archbishop Maximilian Heinrich in 1660, Schöneberg had 15 farms and was the largest village in the parish of Ehrenstein. The districts called “neighborhoods” played a special role, in which the residents were obliged to help each other. The upper village with the so-called "Bungertshof" had to provide neighborhood to Ütgenbach , the middle village to Schützacker, Entschladen and Heide, the lower village to Diefenau. The Schützacker farm, which no longer exists today, was located between Schöneberg and Heide and was named after the local "Schützen mit Rohr", an official with police authority.

The rule of Kurköln in the region ended in 1803 after more than 500 years with the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss . The Electorate of Cologne area in this region was initially the Wied-Runkel assigned and came in 1806 due to the Act of Confederation, the Duchy of Nassau . The Schöneberg community was then subordinate to the administration of the Nassau office of Altenwied . After the treaties concluded at the Congress of Vienna , the area was ceded to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 .

Schöneberg became a municipality in the then newly formed district Neuwied in Koblenz and was initially the mayor Neustadt and from 1823 by the mayor Asbach managed. According to a census from 1885, the community of Schöneberg and its districts had 1,300 inhabitants who lived in 393 residential buildings and 24 residential spaces.
