Hofen is a district of the local community Asbach in the district of Neuwied in northern Rhineland-Palatinate . The place is predominantly agricultural.

geography

The hamlet is located in the Niederwesterwald northwest of the main town Asbach on a hill. West of the town is the district Asbacher beef Hausen , bordered to the north Mayrhofen to the municipal area of Buchholz (Westerwald) . Hofen can only be reached via Kreisstraße 49, which connects the town with Asbach and Rindhausen.

history

Hofen belonged to the electorate of Cologne until 1803 . The place was part of the " Honnschaft Elsaff", which belonged to the parish of Asbach and was under the administration of the Electoral Cologne office of Altenwied . Hofen was not yet mentioned in an inventory ordered by Cologne Elector Maximilian Heinrich in 1660 and was probably created later. In 1787 three farms are noted.

After the Rhineland became part of Prussia in 1815 , Hofen belonged to the municipality of Elsaff in the then newly formed Neuwied district and was administered by the Mayor's office of Asbach . According to a census from 1885, Hofen had 5 residents who lived in 3 houses.

Until March 16, 1974 Hofen belonged to the then independent municipality of Elsaff, which was dissolved on the same date and whose localities were assigned to the newly formed local communities Asbach and Buchholz according to the former parish affiliation . Here Hofen came to Asbach and has been part of the Elsaff-Asbach district since then . In 1987 Hofen had ten residents.
