Diefenau is part of the local community Asbach in the Neuwied district in northern Rhineland-Palatinate .

geography

The living space is in the Niederwesterwald, about five kilometers southeast of the main town of Asbach. Diefenau is located on a low terrace on the Mehrbach . The Mehrbach forms the border between the communities of Asbach and Rott in the Altenkirchen district . The state road 272 connects the place with the Asbacher district Schöneberg and the main town Asbach as well as with Flammersfeld .

history

On September 4, 1486, Bertram von Nesselrode donated the Ehrenstein Monastery , to the maintenance of the monastery he donated various possessions, including a. the courtyard to "Diffanawe". In 1496 Diefenau is mentioned as one of the places of the Ehrenberg rule . Later, Diefenau belonged to the Electorate of Cologne and the Altenwied office and was part of the " Honnschaft Schöneberg". According to an inventory ordered by the Cologne elector and archbishop Maximilian Heinrich in 1660, there was a courtyard in “Diebenau” (Diefenau). It comprised 73 acres of land and 10 acres of meadow.

In a census in 1885, the hamlet of Diefenau had 23 residents who lived in two houses. At the end of the 1950s, Diefenau was the last village in the community of Asbach to be connected to the power supply.

Until March 16, 1974, the residential area belonged to the previously independent community of Schöneberg . On March 16, 1974, the local community Asbach was newly formed from it and the communities of Asbach and Limbach, which were dissolved at the same time, and part of the community of Elsaff . Diefenau belongs to the existing district of Schöneberg.

Forsthaus Diefenau

Today's forester 's house in Diefenau was probably built in 1834 and was last extensively renovated in 1989. The forester's house is the seat of the Gräflich-Nesselrodschen forest administration.

The seven-axis, single-storey half-hip roof building is made of quarry stone and is included in the list of monuments of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate as a cultural monument .
