Rauenhahn is a district of the local community Asbach in the district of Neuwied in northern Rhineland-Palatinate . The place is predominantly agricultural.
geography
The hamlet is located in the Niederwesterwald west of the main town Asbach on a hill above and north of the Pfaffenbach . The Asbacher district of Germscheid is located southwest of the village , and to the north is the hamlet of Muß , which belongs to the local community of Buchholz (Westerwald) . Rauenhahn is connected to the main town of Asbach as well as to the federal motorway 3 (AS Bad Honnef / Linz ) via Landesstraße 272 .
history
Because of the part of the name "-hahn" the place is assigned to the settlement period between the 9th and 12th centuries. "Hahn" is the abbreviated form of "Hagen" and originally means a piece of land that is enclosed and therefore designated as property, mostly forest, which was later to be cleared. The part of the name "Rauhen" denotes a less productive field .
Rauenhahn belonged to the Electorate of Cologne until 1803 . The place was part of the " Honnschaft Elsaff", which belonged to the parish of Asbach and was under the administration of the Electoral Cologne office of Altenwied . In an inventory ordered by Cologne Elector Maximilian Heinrich in 1660, “Rauenhaen” (Rauenhahn) only had one yard.
After the Rhineland came to Prussia in 1815 , Rauenhahn belonged to the municipality of Elsaff in the then newly formed Neuwied district and was administered by the Asbach mayor . According to a census from 1885, Rauenhahn had 41 inhabitants who lived in 8 houses.
Until March 16, 1974, Rauenhahn belonged to the previously independent municipality of Elsaff, which was dissolved on the same date and whose localities were assigned to the newly formed local communities Asbach and Buchholz according to their former parish affiliation . This is where Rauenhahn came to Asbach and has been part of the Elsaff-Asbach district since then . In 1987 Rauenhahn had 44 inhabitants.
Rauenhahner mill
The "Rauenhahnermühle" residential area is about 600 meters from the village of Rauenhahn. The former Rauenhahner mill was the youngest mill in the Pfaffenbachtal and was built in 1913 as a grain mill and sawmill . The overturned waterwheel produced an output of nine hp. In 1957 the flour mill was shut down and the sawmill switched to electric motors.
