Benndorf (Braunsbedra)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Benndorf was a district of Braunsbedra in today's Saalekreis , which has become a desert in Saxony-Anhalt due to the opencast mining of lignite .

Geographical location

Benndorf was in the Geiseltal north of Braunsbedra . Neighboring towns were Gräfendorf in the west, Körbisdorf in the east and Zützschdorf in the south. The former local corridor is now in the east of the Geiseltalsee between Braunsbedraer Ufer and the island in the lake.

history

In a register of the tithe of the Hersfeld monastery , which was created between 881 and 899, Benndorf is mentioned for the first time in a document as the place Bebendorpf im Friesenfeld, which is subject to a tenancy fee . There was a manor in the village, after which the von Benndorf family , an extinct family of ministers, named themselves . This estate was owned by Julius von Zech-Burkersroda until 1847 .

Until 1815, Benndorf belonged to the Hochstift-Merseburg office of Merseburg , which had been under Electoral Saxon sovereignty since 1561 . The decisions of the Congress of Vienna the place to Prussia came and was Merseburg in the administrative district of Merseburg of Saxony Province allocated to which he belonged until 1944th

On April 1, 1937, Benndorf, Körbisdorf and Naundorf were united to form the municipality of Benndorf / Geiseltal. Due to the administrative reform in 1950, parts of the Querfurt district became part of the Merseburg district. In this context, Wernsdorf was incorporated on July 1, 1950 (with Zützschdorf, which was incorporated on October 1, 1936). As a result of lignite mining in the Geiseltal , Benndorf was relocated in 1953 and dredged a year later. The resettlement of Naundorf followed in 1954, that of Zützschdorf and Wernsdorf in 1956, and a year later, the resettlement of Körbisdorf. The places were then devastated. The Romanesque village church of Benndorf , which was destroyed by an air raid in 1944 and has been used as a summer church since then, was demolished in 1955.
