Nagel (organ builder)
Nagel is the name of organ builders in Großenhain in Saxony .
history
The founder of the organ building company was Gottlob Heinrich Nagel (born December 29, 1805 in Grünberg near Radeberg; † August 10, 1883 in Großenhain), son of the wheelwright Johann Christian Nagel and Johanna Sophia Kotte from Grünberg, one brother was the geodesy professor Christian August Nagel . Gottlob Heinrich Nagel probably did an apprenticeship in Dresden and first worked in Königsbrück. It is not known from whom Gottlob Heinrich Nagel learned organ building. Around 1830 he founded an organ building company in Grossenhain. Around 1870 he gave this to his sons Karl Theodor (born January 30, 1837 in Welxande; † September 25, 1917 in Großenhain) and Bernhard August (born October 22, 1846 in Großenhain; † December 24, 1937 ibid). The company operated under the name “Gebr. Nail". It still existed in 1917 and was probably closed around 1920.
More than 30 instruments built by the Nagel organ builders in Saxony, Lusatia and, in some cases, Silesia are known. The mostly smaller new organs have an average of twelve, the few larger ones have up to 20 stops .
List of works
The size of the instruments is indicated by the number of manuals (5th column) and the number of sounding registers (6th column). "P" stands for an independent pedal. Italics indicate that the organ is no longer available or that only the prospectus has been preserved.
