Bernhard Heinrich von Bornstedt

Bernhard Heinrich von Bornstedt (* around 1693 in Prussia; † February 17, 1752 on the rule of Guttentag in Upper Silesia ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 9 .

Life

origin

His parents were the Prussian colonel and commander of Pillau and Memel , Ernst Ludwig von Bornstedt († 1706) and his wife Anna Elisabeth, born von Byern (1650-1693).

Military career

Bornstedt joined the Fusilier Guard of the Prussian Army as a cadet in 1710 . In November 1713 he came as an ensign in the infantry regiment "von Wartensleben" and took part in the siege of Stralsund during the Pomeranian campaign in 1715/16 . Bornstedt then moved to the newly established “Anhalt-Dessau” infantry regiment as a second lieutenant . In 1717/18 he was a volunteer in General Varenne's corps in Hungary. On his return he received a company in the "Platen" dragoon regiment . Bornstedt rose to major on June 22, 1726 and became lieutenant colonel on January 4, 1738 . As such, Bornstedt took part in the siege and storming of Glogau during the campaign in 1740/42 and received the order Pour le Mérite . Bornstedt also fought at Mollwitz and Chotusitz . He was appointed colonel on April 11, 1741 and regimental commander on July 23, 1741.

Promoted to major general in mid-January 1743 , Bornstedt was from the end of March leader of a group of Prussian officers who fought as volunteers with the Imperial Army under Karl Alexander von Lothringen against the French. On November 14, 1743 he returned to Prussia and King Friedrich II appointed Bornstedt head of the cuirassier regiment "Möllendorff" . On June 24, 1744 he was also canon at the monastery of Our Lady in Halberstadt . During the campaign of 1744/45 Bornstedt led the second meeting on the right wing in the Battle of Hohenfriedberg and was wounded in the arm during the fighting.

At the end of October 1750 he aroused the king's displeasure, as reports of excesses of the regiment in the Opole garrison became known to Friedrich II . He threatened Bornstedt with the withdrawal of the executive position. At the beginning of September 1751 Bornstedt dimittiert on October 1, 1751 under the character of lieutenant general with a pension of 1000 thalers. He died of pneumonia on February 17, 1752 on his reign of Guttentag in Upper Silesia.
