Bernhard von Plehwe

Bernhard Joachim von Plehwe (born October 23, 1792 in Dwarischken, Pillkallen district, † February 15, 1858 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , commander of the 1st division and honorary citizen of the city of Treptow an der Rega .

Life

origin

His grandfather was Joachim von Plehwe (around 1712–1788), heir and court lord of Dwarischken, councilor and mayor of Pillkallen, and Prussian captain of the land militia in the Seven Years' War .

His parents were the gentleman on Dwarischken Otto Siegfried von Plehwe (1748-1810) and his wife Katharina Caroline, née Heinz (1770-1804). After the mother's death, the father married Esther Christiane Heinz (1780–1866) in 1805. The father was also a brother of Major General Karl Bernhard von Rosenbusch born. from Plehwe.

Military career

Plehwe visited the cadet house in Berlin from July 1805 and was employed on July 17, 1811 as portepeef ensign in the normal dragoon squadron of the Prussian army . On May 12, 1812 he was promoted to Second Lieutenant and in May 1813 he was appointed 2nd Brigade Adjutant. In September 1813 he then joined the Light Guard Cavalry Regiment as an adjutant . During the Wars of Liberation , Plehwe fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Kulm , Leipzig , Brienne , Paris and the battles near Borna, Waldau and Arcis-sur-Aube . For Bautzen, Plehwe received the Iron Cross II. Class and was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on September 14, 1815 .

After the war he was promoted to Rittmeister and squadron chief in the Guard Cuirassier Regiment on August 18, 1818 . On March 30, 1834, he was aggregated as a major in the Guard Cuirassier Regiment and on March 30, 1838, he was appointed a regular staff officer. With his promotion to lieutenant colonel on April 7, 1842, Plehwe was entrusted with the command of the 4th Uhlan regiment and on January 10, 1843 he was appointed regiment commander. In this position, he was promoted to colonel on March 22, 1845 . From May 13, 1848 to April 5, 1854 he acted as commander of the 1st Cavalry Brigade . In the meantime he had been promoted to major general on April 19, 1851 and awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, on August 6, 1851 . On April 6, 1854, Plehwe was transferred to the 2nd Division as commander and promoted to lieutenant general on July 13, 1854. On May 10, 1855 he was then commander of the 1st division. On September 12, 1856 he received the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. On August 3, 1857, with an honorary salary of 50 thalers, he became senior of the Iron Cross, 2nd class. With the award of the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves, Plehwe was put up for disposal on December 1, 1857 with the statutory pension .

Bernhard Joachim von Plehwe was the founder of the Hospital of Mercy and the King's Hall in Königsberg in Prussia.

He was killed on February 15, 1858 in a duel with a relative, Lieutenant Cuirassier Conrad Jachmann.

family

Plehwe married Georgine Krüger (1791–1866) in Neubrandenburg on July 26, 1816 , a daughter of the citizen and whitewater Samuel Hartwig Krüger. The couple had two sons:

  • Bernhard (1823–1895), lieutenant and farmer, married Clara, the daughter of the general councilor R. Jachmann
  • Karl (1825–1886), Prussian major general, first married to Helene von Pusch, then to Alma von Borcke

The Prussian Higher Regional Court President and Chancellor Karl Ludwig von Plehwe was Bernhard Joachim's nephew.
