Berovo ( pronounced Berowo , Macedonian Берово ) is a small town in the east of the Republic of North Macedonia . The Maleševo Mountain is nearby . The city is the administrative seat of the Opština Berovo of the same name .

geography
Berovo is located in the east of the country, 15 km from the border with Bulgaria . The Bregalnica River runs through the town. Berovo is 830–900 m above sea level. Known for its traditional woodworking and other handicraft skills, many tourists visit the city. Berovo cheese is also widely known.
Culture
Monastery of the Holy Archangel Michael
Construction of the first monastery in Berovo began in 1815 until it was inaugurated in 1818. The scout Joachim Krcovski was present at the blessing of the building. Historical data on the building was lost for a variety of reasons, but it is known that the builders faced many difficulties.
At the beginning of the 19th century, Berovo was a rural settlement with around two hundred houses and a small church. The townspeople built the church from blocks of stone, soot and lime in just 40 days.
Convent
The first women's monastery was built in 1940. The first nun was the daughter of the monk Risto, Eugenia.

Mayor of the city has been Dragi Nadžinski since 2009.
