Probištip ( Macedonian Пробиштип ) is a small town in eastern North Macedonia and the official seat of an Opština , to which 35 other villages belong. The municipality has 16,193 inhabitants, while 10,816 people live in the city itself (status: 2002 census).

geography

Probištip is located east of the hill chain of Mangovica in the Valley of Zletovska . In the south lies the Kočansko Pole , a plateau named after Kočani , which is typical of Macedonia. In the northeast begins the Osogowo mountain range , in which the highest mountain peaks of Eastern Macedonia are located.

economy

The region is rich in lead , zinc and silver . The mines, formerly known as Zletovo and now Indo Minerals and Mines , have been in operation since 1970. The 2002 unemployment rate in the municipality was 33.79 percent. This was lower than the national average of 38.07 percent.

Culture

The local football club is called FK Rudar Probištip and was founded in 1947.

The Aqua Park Macedonia is located in the north of the city and is a nationally known water theme park .
