Mett ( French Mâche ) is the most populous and third largest quarter in terms of area in the city of Biel . The quarter begins in the city center and runs to the south-eastern edge of the city. It borders the Büttenbergwald and the Längholzwald as well as Orpund . Mett is a former political municipality and was incorporated into Biel in 1920.

location

The actual center of the former community is around the church south of the Schüss .

traffic

The road from Biel to Büren an der Aare runs through the village .

The Biel-Solothurn railway line, which was opened in 1857, passed south of what was then the village center. The Mett-Bözingen station (today “Biel Mett”) was not opened until 1895. From 1909 to 1991 there was a narrow-gauge freight railway that opened up from Mett station, the wire works and the sleeper works in Bözingen.

In 1913 the Biel-Meinisberg-Bahn (BMB) was opened, which led from Biel to Meinisbeg. The line from Biel to Mett station, however, belonged to the Biel tram , which started operating on this line in the same year. As a result of the changeover of the tram route to trolleybus operation in 1940, the BMB also changed over, which continued with buses from June 30, 1940.
