- Technical University Nuremberg Georg Simon Ohm - The largest of the Nuremberg universities emerged from predecessor institutions such as the Municipal Polytechnic School since 1823. It was named after Georg Simon Ohm , who taught at it from 1839 to 1849 as a professor or was its rector. The Nuremberg University of Applied Sciences was foundedby the merger of the forerunner institutions in 1971. Since October 1, 2007, it has operated as the Georg-Simon-Ohm University of Applied Sciences Nuremberg . As a result of a competition, the university was awarded the title “Technical University” on March 12, 2013 by the Bavarian Council of Ministers; the new official name has been in effect since October 1, 2013.
- Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg - In Nuremberg there are two parts of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, which was founded in Bayreuth in1742andrelocatedto Erlangen in1743. In 1961, the Nuremberg University of Economics and Social Sciences, founded in 1919, was incorporated into theFaculty of Economics and Social Sciences. Since then, the university has had the addition of Erlangen-Nuremberg to its name. Since a structural reform in 2007, the Faculty has been integratedinto the new Faculty of Law and Economicsas the Faculty of Economics . In 1972 the Nuremberg University of Education was incorporated into the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg as the Faculty of Education. It has been part of the Philosophical Faculty and Department of Theology since 2007. The institutes for educational science and for primary school research are located in Nuremberg.
- Evangelical University of Applied Sciences Nuremberg - The Evangelical University of Applied Sciences Nuremberg was established in 1927 as an evangelical social women's school. In 1947 a catechetical and social seminar was established in Neuendettelsau, from which a Protestant social institute emerged in 1967. Both institutions were merged in 1971 and elevated to a university of applied sciences.
- FOM University of Economics & Management - The University of Economics & Management offers economics courses at the Nuremberg Study Center that lead to a Bachelor or Diploma .
- Nuremberg University of Music - The Nuremberg University of Music was created on August 1, 1999 through the merger of the Meistersinger Conservatory in Nuremberg and the Leopold Mozart Conservatory in Augsburg. It was taken over by the state on January 1, 2008.
- Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg - The Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg was founded in 1662, making it the oldest of its kind in German-speaking countries. From 1806 it was an institution of the Kingdom of Bavaria and was renamed several times before it was given its current name in 1945.
- Technical University of Nuremberg - The Technical University of Nuremberg has been under construction since 2018 and is scheduled to start operating gradually from 2021.
