Brandon Smith (born February 25, 1973 in Hazelton , British Columbia ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who was active in Germany for the Eisbären Berlin and for the Straubing Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Smith began his ice hockey career in the Canadian Junior League WHL . There he first played for the Portland Winter Hawks . After he was able to convince in his first season in 1989/90, the left shooter continuously increased his points yield in the following years. In his fifth and final year in Portland , Smith achieved 82 points scorer in 72 games, which is a comparatively high value for defenders. Then the defender moved to the 1994/95 season in the American Hockey League to the Adirondack Red Wings , the then farm team of the Detroit Red Wings .
Then the scouts of the Boston Bruins became aware of him, so that the franchise Smith took for the 1998/99 season under contract. There the Canadian was mainly with the farm team, the Providence Bruins , but he played five games in the National Hockey League in his first season in Boston . In total, the defender completed 25 NHL games in three years in the Bruins franchise. For the next three years, Brandon Smith ran for the New York Islanders and San Jose Sharks franchises . For the Islanders he played three NHL games in the 2002/03 season and was otherwise used in the American Hockey League. In the 2005/06 season the Canadian was alternate captain of the Amerks and in the 2006/07 season he led his team as captain on the ice. Despite very good performances this season, Smith's contract in Rochester was not renewed, so he decided to move to Europe.
The 2007/08 season and 2008/09 season the defender played for the Eisbären Berlin in the German Ice Hockey League . In his first season he won the German championship with the capital club and was able to repeat this success a year later. On September 21, 2009, the Straubing Tigers announced the signing of Brandon Smith. After a season in Straubing returned to North America and completed several games for the Bentley Generals in the Chinook Hockey League in the 2010/11 season . Following this engagement, Smith ended his career.
