Brian Arthur Savage (born February 24, 1971 in Sudbury , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 713 games for the Canadiens de Montréal , Phoenix Coyotes , St. Louis Blues and Philadelphia Flyers between 1990 and 2006 has played in the National Hockey League on the position of right winger . Savage celebrated his greatest career success in the jersey of the Canadian national team by winning the silver medal at the 1994 Winter Olympics .
Career
Brian Savage began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with the Sudbury Cubs junior team, for which he was active in the 1989/90 season. He then attended Miami University for three years , for whose ice hockey team he played parallel to his studies in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association . During this period he was also selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1991 in the eighth round as a total of 171 players by the Canadiens de Montréal . The 1993/94 season began the winger with Team Canada in their Olympic preparation and finished them with the Canadiens de Montréal in the National Hockey League and with their farm team Fredericton Canadiens from the American Hockey League . From the 1994/95 season he played exclusively with the Canadiens de Montréal in the NHL, where he developed into a leading player. He missed most of the 1999/2000 season due to a neck injury.
In January 2002 Savage was given to the Phoenix Coyotes together with a third round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2002 in exchange for the Russian Sergei Beresin . He stayed there for two years across the seasons before being signed by the St. Louis Blues towards the end of 2003/04 . After the 2004/05 season was canceled due to a lockout , he played in the 2005/06 season for the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL. He then ended his career at the age of 35.
International
For Canada , Savage took part in the 1993 and 1999 World Championships and the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer . At the 1994 Winter Games, he and his team won the silver medal.
