British and Irish Cup 2014/15
The British and Irish Cup 2014/15 is the sixth edition of the British and Irish Cup , one of the most important rugby union cup competitions within the Six Nations. There are 20 teams from England, Wales and Ireland involved. The competition started on October 10, 2014.
Attendees
The following teams are eligible to participate:
- the 12 teams of the RFU Championship in England
- 4 teams from the Welsh Premier Division from Wales
- the 4 senior teams from Ireland representing each Irish province
mode
There are five groups of four teams each, with each team playing once against each other. The groups are put together according to geographical aspects, so that long journeys are not necessary for the spectators of the visiting teams. The group winners and the three best runners-up in the group meet in the quarter-finals and determine the semi-finalists there. The cup winner will be determined in the final. In the group stage, the teams receive:
- four points for a win
- two points for a tie
- a bonus point for four or more attempts
- a bonus point for a loss of seven or less points
