The castle bite is an Outbound Wasserburg in today Echzeller district bite in Wetteraukreis in Hesse .

location

The former moated castle is located at the eastern end of the village. Today's moat called Bach was apparently to supply the moat used.
Today the pond is used as a fire fighting pond and as a recreation area for the town.

history

The origins and construction of the moated castle lie in the dark of history. It is not known whether the Lords of Bisses, who died out in the 14th century, built the castle. In 1390 the castle fief came into the possession of the lords of Lüder and from 1452 to 1608 it came to the von Dörnberg family . The castle was owned by the von Buchenau family from the beginning of the 17th century . In 1655 Georg Christian von Buchenau and his wife Elisabeth von Dörnberg are named as the owner of the castle. By marriage, the castle loan fell to the von Nagel family from 1679 at the latest . Heinrich Philipp von Nagel received the property next to it through the dowry of his wife Elisabeth, born von Buchenau. The von Nagel are at the same time lords of the place Bisses (1679–1781). The von Sell family received part of the fief .

It is believed that the castle was destroyed in the Thirty Years War and not rebuilt. The castle loan was sold to the Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt in 1783 .

In the mid-1990s, the ring-shaped moat was expanded into a pond. The castle hill in the middle was excavated, the small remains of the building were removed and the complex was finally destroyed.

description

View from the southwest over the pond. Location of the lost moated castle Bisses

Due to the small size of today's pond, it can be assumed that the moated castle was just a stone house or a tower hill (moth) with a moat .
