history

In 1383 Ulrich Putendorffer sold his dwelling "Das Newhaus" near Geyern with all accessories such as court and proprietary rights, as well as the tithing of Nennslingen for Hungarian and Bohemian gulden to the knight Berthold Schenk von Geyern, whereby the guarantors were obliged to guarantee in the city of Weißenburg . The seller belonged to the clan of the Reichsministeriale von Buttendorf and Leonrod from the Roßtal and Dietenhofen area and lived there as early as 1370. This raises the question of whether Neuhaus was built to secure the imperial property around Weißenburg. From the beginning of the 15th century, the castle, which in the 16th century was called abandoned and dilapidated because of its inaccessible location and the small amount of property belonging to it, was owned by the Geyern taverns , whose descendants reside at Geyern Castle. In 1435 at the arbitration award between the disputed cousins, knight Jorg Schenk von Geyern owned Neuhaus, which he built and enjoyed by himself for several years. As accessories to the castle, possession of Pfraunfeld, the tithe of Raitenbuch and a piece of forest are mentioned.

A deep ditch and an excavated foundation are evidence of the former castle complex, which had a residential tower ( donjon ) . The Burgstall is a ground monument . The area is designated as a ground monument (D-5-6932-0083) by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation (BLfD) .
