The New Castle

The New Palace is located in Pappenheim in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district in Central Franconia . The listed classical building has the address Marktplatz 5.

history

Pappenheim belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria, founded in 1806, since 1806 . The Marshals von Pappenheim had the New Palace built by master builder Leo von Klenze from 1819 to 1822 and then moved their headquarters from the Old Palace to the New Palace.
The three-wing building has a protruding, higher central wing with a rusticated basement with arcades . The interior furniture was designed by Klenze and Jean Baptiste Métivier . In the ballroom there is a stucco coffered ceiling by Pierre Viotti as well as a historical frieze and several grisaille paintings by Anton Schönherr . The castle has an English landscape garden that borders the Altmühl . Today there are several offices and apartments in the building.

The New Palace is still owned by the von und zu Egloffstein family .

Between 2009 and 2016 the facade facing the market square should have been renovated. When this did not happen, the city administration of Pappenheim asked for clarification and put the disbursement of funds from urban development subsidies, which are linked to the completion of certain construction phases, on hold. A total of 1.3 of the 1.8 million euros in construction costs should be reimbursed to the count family through public funds. However, until now (June 2017) it is unclear what exactly happened to the funds. Apart from the south facade, the west and east wings were not completely renovated either. Inge Aures, Vice President of the State Parliament (SPD), advised the mayor on May 22, 2017 to reclaim any urban development funds that had already been paid out from the Egloffsteins. The Member of Parliament Helga Schmitt Bussinger reserves the right to refer the case to the Bavarian Supreme Court of Auditors to bring.
