Old Castle (Pappenheim)
The old castle is the former residence of the marshals of Pappenheim , and is located within the old town of the Middle Franconian town of Pappenheim at Graf-Carl-Straße 13.
history
The previous aristocratic seat, today's Pappenheim castle ruins , was no longer considered appropriate, which is why Wolf Christoph zu Pappenheim added the old castle to an older building in 1593 . The builder was Franz Joseph Roth . The building remained the residence of Marshals von Pappenheim until the New Palace was built .
Building description
While the facade was built in the Renaissance style, the interior from the 16th to 18th centuries is late Gothic and early Classicist . The buildings surrounding the castle courtyard , including an orangery and several pavilions , collapsed in 1953. The main building has three storeys and is decorated by polygonal, four-storey corner towers with pointed helmets .
