Möhren Castle is a medieval hunting lodge, the history of which goes back to the 12th century. The castle is privately owned. The current owners live in the castle and have furnished four holiday apartments.

Castle property

The castle estate covers 4.5 hectares. The cultural heritage has a hunting castle with a round tower, a south and north tower and a former manor house (now a house) with an adjoining castle ranch. Some parts of the outbuildings date from the Jurassic period. The foundations of the castle date back to 1137. Parts of them are visible in the old escape route of the castle. The entire castle, manor house, castle towers and outbuildings were renovated in the 18th century.

Castle towers

The property has three towers. A castle tower and a north and south tower. The south tower from 1300 is the old entrance gate with the Pappenheim coat of arms. The north and south towers can be rented, the castle tower can only be viewed during a guided tour of the castle.

Swiss house and castle ranch

On the property there is a single-family house 'the Swiss house'. The Swiss lived here in the 15th century. A Swiss was someone who exercised a special profession outside of his country's borders. Next to the Schweizerhaus is the old sheepfold / castle ranch with old horse stables and an abandoned smithy. The castle ranch still has the original wooden support structure from the 18th century.

The Castle carrot is a palace in carrots , a district of Treuchtlingen in the Middle Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . The building is registered under the monument number D-5-77-173-106 as an architectural monument in the Bavarian monument list. The palace is located on the outskirts of the town above the center of the old town and not far from the parish church of the Assumption of Mary at an altitude of 470 meters above  sea ​​level . The remains of a hilltop castle built in the 13th century were demolished in 1711 and today's castle was built by the marshals von Pappenheim . It was historicized in 1880. Möhren Castle is located in southern Germany, Bavaria , Middle Franconia , the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district , about 60 km south of Nuremberg and 120 km above Munich . The meteorite impact in Nördlingen 15 million years ago created a hilly landscape that we call today's Altmühltal Nature Park . Möhren Castle is located in the heart of the Altmühltal and on the Romantic Road .

history

The history of the castle begins in the year 1137. The former knight's castle Möhren, which borders on the principality of Ansbach , belongs to the royal estate of Monheim . The order of knights is part of the Duchy of Nuremberg. The first owners are the nobles Otto and Heinrich Mern.
