Burgstall Rettenburg

The Postal Saving Castle , also Rettenberg and Rottenberg called, is a Outbound Spur castle on a 778  m above sea level. NHN high rock spur about 1200 meters above the Egelsee south of Kruchenhausen , a district of the municipality Unterwössen in the district of Traunstein in Bavaria .

The castle, presumably a pre-fortification of Marquartstein Castle , was built by the Lords of Rettenberg to protect the old road to Reit im Winkl . 1160 "Chounradus Dapifer ( Truchsess ) von Rettenberc" was mentioned. The castle was desolate in the 14th century , around 1860 "3 to 4 feet high walls" were still visible.

Today's Burgstall on a ridge sloping steeply on three sides still shows slight traces of mortar masonry and is now a ground monument .
