The castle Surberg , even Surrberg called, is an Outbound medieval hilltop castle from the type of a motte (Motte) in flat promontory on 650 m above sea level. NHN in the former Herzogswald about 175 meters west of the church of Surberg in the Traunstein district in Bavaria .
history
The Lords of Surberg were mentioned in the 12th century, the castle itself was first mentioned in 1124 as "castrum Surberch". The Surbergers were ministerials of the Archdiocese of Salzburg , after their extinction around 1250, the castle and the properties belonging to it fell back to the Archdiocese. The further history of the castle is not known, possibly the Surberg St. George's Church, which was built in the middle of the 13th century, was built with the ashlar stones of the castle. In the roughly two-meter-thick walls of the church tower , it shows hump square masonry , but the humps on the west side were cut off. However, this church tower may also have been a defensive tower in front of the castle.
From the former moth , only the frustoconical tower hill and the partially leveled neck ditch at the foot of the hill are preserved. The Burgstall is now a ground monument .
