The excavations in the archaeological excavation sites in the Cagayan Valley were able to prove the early presence of humans on the course of the Cagayan river. The findings are among the oldest artifacts in the territory of the Philippines and stand on the proposed list of the Philippines since 2006 for inclusion in the World Heritage List of UNESCO .
