Carl-Heinz Westenburger

Carl-Heinz Westenburger (born September 4, 1924 in Tannenberg ; † May 5, 2008 ibid) was a German painter , graphic artist , monument conservator and conservationist .

Live and act

Westenburger studied at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art and then worked as a freelance artist. During the GDR times, he was a member of the “Fine Arts” group of friends of the GDR Cultural Association in Annaberg-Buchholz . In October 1972 he opened a cabinet exhibition in the Erzgebirge Museum with works by Westenburger, and exhibitions in the Dresden art exhibitions and the Chemnitz art collections as well as abroad also contributed to his fame . He led painting and drawing circles in Annaberg-Buchholz and Zschopau , later numerous other exhibitions followed in other places. He was also a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR , since 1968 chairman of the painting / graphics section of the Karl-Marx-Stadt district and a member of the Karl-Marx-Stadt district management of the GDR cultural association. In his birthplace he headed the local branch of the Kulturbund, was the local representative for regional culture and took part as a delegate and speaker at the 8th Congress of the Kulturbund in 1972 in Berlin . After 1990 he became honorary chairman of the re-founded Erzgebirgszweigverein Tannenberg.

According to his own statement, Westenburger was able to help design important centers in cities and communities. His artistic work is closely linked to the Ore Mountains . He is particularly known for his landscapes and portraits . The large murals in the Fichtelberg Hotel and in the Annaberger Theater are representative. In addition to his artistic work, he has been involved in the preservation of monuments and nature conservation in his home country since his youth . The Hermannsdorfer Wiesen nature reserve near Elterlein is a lasting testimony to his work, and he has been committed to creating and maintaining it all his life. He did an excellent job with the historical documentation of the old hereditary court at Cranzahl . The extensive collection of material is in the Ore Mountains Museum Annaberg-Buchholz . In 2003 he was the main initiator and co-founder of the Erzgebirge Landscape Art Collection, a regional art collection of the Annaberg district and, from 2008, of the Erzgebirgskreis at Schlettau Castle .
