Carol Lawrence
Carol Lawrence (* 5. September 1932 in Melrose Park , Illinois as Carolina Maria Laraia ) is an American actress and singer who especially for by their performances on Broadway earned as well as in television series and movies awareness.
Life
Carol Lawrence was born Carolina Maria Laraia in Melrose Park in 1932. Her parents were of Italian origin, her father and her mother's family came from the municipality of Trivigno . After graduating from high school, Lawrence spent a year at Northwestern University before dropping out to train as a professional dancer. Her talent as a singer and actress was discovered and further promoted here.
Lawrence made her Broadway stage debut in 1952 in New Faces . In 1957 she took on the role of Maria in the world premiere of West Side Story , for which she was nominated for a Tony Award for best supporting actress in a musical . She stayed on the cast of West Side Story for two years before taking on a role in the short-lived musical Saratoga in 1959 . In 1960 she returned to the West Side Story ensemble for one season . In addition to her roles on Broadway, Lawrence has appeared in performances in St. Louis and Los Angeles . One of the major Broadway appearances of her late career was the lead role in Kiss the Spider Woman at the Broadhurst Theater from 1993 to 1995 .
Since 1955, Lawrence has appeared in television series and films. She was one of the regular cast in 65 episodes of the 1994 television series Valley of the Dolls . Lawrence is still active as an actress in the theater and occasionally on television. In 1985 she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the Live Performance category for her achievements . In 1990 her autobiography was published under the title Carol Lawrence: The Backstage Story .
Carol Lawrence was married three times: from 1956 to 1959 with Cosmo Allegretti, from 1963 to 1981 with the singer and actor Robert Goulet and from 1982 to 1983 with John Gregory Guydus. She is the mother of two children.
