Château-des-Prés is a town and commune Déléguée in the French municipality of Grande-Rivière Château with 206 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the French department of Jura in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Château-des-Prés is located at 942 m , about twelve kilometers north of the city of Saint-Claude (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on an extensive plateau between the valley of the Bienne and the Lac de l'Abbaye , at the southwestern foot of the Mont d'Ecuvet, north of the Combe de Laume.
The surface of the 8.62 km² area of the Commune déléguée covers a section of the French Jura. The landscape shows only slight differences in relief and is characterized by parallel ridges and depressions, which are oriented towards the southwest-northeast in accordance with the direction of the fold of the Jura in this area. From a structural geological point of view, they represent a series of anticlines and synclines , which mainly consist of rock layers from the Upper Jurassic period .
The western part of the Commune déléguée is drained by the Loutre stream, but it seeps away after only a few kilometers. The rest of the area of the Commune déléguée does not show any surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the porous calcareous subsoil. To the east, the floor of the Commune déléguée extends over the Mont d'Ecuvet ( 1020 m ) into the extensive forest regions of Bois de la Pontoise , Bois du Fournet ( 1023 m ), Bois de Seillières ( 1030 m ) and in the far east to the Bois des Ecolets , at which the highest point of Château-des-Prés is reached at 1080 m . The area of the Commune déléguée is part of the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park (French: Parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura ).
The Commune déléguée Château-des-Prés includes the hamlet of Les Frasses ( 960 m ) in a cleared island at the western foot of the Bois des Ecolets and various individual farms. Neighboring communities of Château-des-Prés were Grande-Rivière in the north, Hauts de Bienne with Lézat in the east, Villard-sur-Bienne in the south and Nanchez with Chaux-des-Prés in the west.
history
The first written mention is not certain, but it is assumed that the name Castaniacum in a document from Emperor Lothar I from 855 meant today's Château-des-Prés. The place name changed to the current spelling via Castrum de Pratis , Chatel and Chastel-des-Prelz .
The area belonged to the dominion of the Abbey of Saint-Claude. In order to defend himself against attacks from the surrounding areas, the abbot had a castle built at Château-des-Prés around 1240. So the place became the center of a Kastlanei that was dependent on Saint-Claude and also included the neighboring village of Chaux-des-Prés. In 1436, sovereignty over the area passed from the abbot to the Free County of Burgundy through a parliamentary decision . Together with Franche-Comté , Château-des-Prés came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
The municipality of Château-des-Prés merged with Grande-Rivière on January 1, 2019 to form the Commune nouvelle Grande-Rivière Château.
Attractions
The village church of Saint-Georges was rebuilt in 1822. There is a country chapel near the hamlet of Les Frasses. The ruins of the medieval castle on Mont d'Ecuvet have been preserved.
