Christopher Campoli (born July 9, 1984 in Mississauga , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player of Italian descent, who played 415 games for the New York Islanders , Ottawa Senators , Chicago Blackhawks and Canadiens de Montréal between 2000 and 2016 has played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender .
Career
The 1.83 m tall defender began his professional career with the Erie Otters in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League before he was selected in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft as 227th in the seventh round by the Islanders.
The Islanders first used the team captain of the Otters with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , their farm team in the American Hockey League , and in the 2005/06 season he was on the ice for the first time in an NHL game for New York. The left shooter managed to establish himself in the Islanders' squad in the same season, but an injury forced him to return to the Tigers in the AHL at the beginning of the following season . After Alexei Schitnik's departure , Campoli was recalled to the Islanders' squad, and in July 2007 his contract in New York was extended by three years. There he was set as a regular player before the defender was handed over to the Ottawa Senators in February 2009 in a transfer deal together with Mike Comrie in exchange for Dean McAmmond and a first-round vote in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft . Around two years later, Campoli was given to the Chicago Blackhawks . In the 2011/12 season Campoli played for the Canadiens de Montréal .
From February 2013 Campoli was in the NLA squad of EHC Biel , where Campoli took on an important leadership role due to his many years of NHL experience. After the end of the season he moved within the NLA to HC Lugano , for which he however only completed eight league games and was handed over to the HV71 from the Svenska Hockeyligan in October of the same year . In the service of the Swedish team, the Canadian ended his active career in the summer of 2016 at the age of 32.
