Christopher John Haslam (born May 27, 1974 in Southport , Merseyside ) is a retired British basketball player . After studying in the United States , Haslam played in various European leagues, in addition to Germany at the MBC from Weißenfels in the 2001/02 season, and for a longer period in Belgium and Italy . At the end of his career, the British international returned to his homeland, where he had started his professional career. After his career, Haslam became an assistant coach in Lamar, Colorado at Community College in 2010 .

Career

To study Haslam went to the United States in 1993 at the University of Wyoming , where he - together in a team with the future NBA - All-Star Theo Ratliff - played for the college team Cowboys , which were then playing in the Western Athletic Conference of the NCAA . However, the Cowboys were never able to qualify for the national finals of the NCAA during Haslam's active time .

In 1997 Haslam returned to his homeland and played for the Bullets from Birmingham in the British Basketball League . The Bullets won the championship title this season and took the title back from the London Towers . Haslam moved to Greece to Apollon Patras for the following season . At the end of the season, however, the Greeks only took the penultimate place and were relegated from the A1 Ethniki . While the German coach Dirk Bauermann took over the club in the following season, Haslam moved to Belgium, where Bauermann had previously worked. With the Royal Basket Club from Pepinster missed Haslam after a poor start to the season and a coaching change the play-offs at the Belgian Championship 2000. Under the new coach Niksa Bavčević succeeded in the following season still qualified for the play-offs, where you against the later master Telindus Oostende left.

For the 2001/02 season Haslam then signed a contract with the German first division club MBC Weißenfels in the basketball league . The newcomer from 1999 missed qualification for the play-offs for the German championship for the first time this season and was last in the table at the end of the regular season after only five wins. In the relegation round, the leap to the penultimate place in the table succeeded, which was enough to keep the league, as there was only one promoted for the following season. For the following season Haslam returned to Belgium and played for the club from Liège .

In 2003 Haslam moved to the Italian Lega Basket Serie A to the promoted team from the Sicilian Messina , who however finished last in the table at the end of the season. While Messina then went bankrupt, Haslam moved to the club from Livorno . Livorno missed the play-offs for the championship at the end of the season, and Haslam moved to league rivals in Teramo in 2005 . Haslam only stayed there until January 2006, when he moved back to Sicily to the former first division club from Trapani . However, this club was knocked off bottom of the table at the end of the season in the second division LegADue with only four games out of 30 games.

In the 2006/07 season there was a new basketball club in the British Basketball League in the British capital, London , United , as the former ULEB Euroleague participant London Towers had gone bankrupt. Haslam was signed for this new club, which was eliminated early in its premier season in the play-offs. Then it was also over for this club due to financial difficulties, and Haslam first played in 2007 in the Czech Republic with Mlékárna Kunín from Nový Jičín . Tony Garbelotto , his coach at London United, then brought Haslam back to the British Basketball League, where he played for the next three seasons with the Everton Tigers near his hometown . At the end of his career he also won the championship in the British Basketball League with the Tigers in 2010, after becoming runner-up the previous year.

With the English national team, Haslam had always failed to qualify for a final round. After the 2012 Olympic Games were awarded to the British capital, London, a British national basketball team was reorganized. Together with Haslam, this team was able to play its way into the circle of the best European national teams in Division A in 2007. Subsequently, Haslam was no longer considered for the national team, which then qualified for the 2009 European Championship finals .
