Life

family

Christoph Gottlieb Bogislav von Barnekow was the eldest son of Georg Christoph von Barnekow (* 1700; † 1783 in Bergen on Rügen ) and his wife Maria Tugendreich von Rosen. His brother, Friedrich Christian von Barnekow (* 1749, † 1794) founded the Klein-Kubbelkower line of the family, where the estate, which has been cultivated since the 14th century, is located.

His first marriage was Ulrike Anna (* unknown; † 1786), born von Usedom from the house of Udars on Rügen , from which the following children are known by name:

  • Karl Ludwig von Barnekow (born March 29, 1768, † April 20, 1829 in Sissow ), Prussian major in Hussar Regiment No. 7 and landlord of Sissow and Prosnitz ;
  • Ernst Friedrich Christoph von Barnekow (* May 4, 1769; † December 4, 1791), Prussian lieutenant in the hussar regiment "von Wolffradt" on Usedom ;
  • Eduard von Barnekow (born December 29, 1772, † September 6, 1813), died in the Battle of Dennewitz as a Prussian major and commander of the Pomeranian Landwehr Cavalry Regiment;
  • Gustav von Barnekow (born February 10, 1779 in Bergen on Rügen, † March 7, 1838 in Berlin ); Major general

  • Helmuth Friedrich Alexander von Barnekow (* July 24, 1783; † 1812);
  • Adolph Friedrich von Barnekow (born October 5, 1784; † 1817), Prussian major in the 1st Guard Regiment , was seriously injured in the battle of Großgörschen .

In his second marriage he married Henriette, a daughter of Joachim Christoph von Platen (1730–1788), Mr. von Venz , Zubzow and Reischvitz , with whom he also had children, two of whom died in childhood. His son Alfred (* July 25, 1795, † March 25, 1866), who came from this marriage, later ran the estates of Ralswiek , Gnies and Teschvitz, who was a royal Prussian chamberlain, captain a. D. and member of the Prussian House of Representatives from 1849 until his death.

Career

Christoph Gottlieb Bogislav von Barnekow received his first lessons at home and later from Provost Michael Nestius (1721–1794) in Bergen on Rügen . He attended the universities in Greifswald , Kiel and Göttingen and studied law, philosophy and the Roman classics, as well as drawing in chalk and making construction plans.

After completing his studies, he took the position of chamberlain in Schwerin in 1764 . There he was entrusted with the education of Prince Friedrich Franz , with whom he then corresponded until the end of his life.

His father had assigned part of the property to him, including the Teschvitz estate on Rügen ; there he wanted to devote himself to country life.

In 1770 he received from Schwerin from Duke Friedrich the offer of a position as chief forest master. Due to the economic situation at the time, he accepted the offer and went to Württemberg for technical training for a year in order to acquire the necessary hunting skills in Cannstatt . After his return to Mecklenburg , he was assigned several districts in Ludwigslust . Because of the proximity to Schwerin, he often stayed at the court there. In 1777 he returned to Rügen, but kept his previous salary as a pension.

After taking over the property from the lessee, he discovered that the lessee had run down the property to such an extent that every building had to be renewed, as well as the death of cattle and crop failures. At the same time, the family grew to seven sons and three daughters.

Until his death at the age of 90 he managed his estates.
