Claudine Vita (born September 19, 1996 in Frankfurt (Oder) , Brandenburg ) is a German athlete who specializes in the shot put and discus throw . In 2017 she became the U23 European champion in the discus throw.

Personal

Claudine Vita's parents, who come from Angola , came to Germany in 1989. She grew up in a home for asylum seekers in Fürstenwalde / Spree before the family moved to Berlin-Reinickendorf . Vita attended the sports high school in Neubrandenburg , an elite sports school . Vita lives and trains in Neubrandenburg and is a corporal in the Bundeswehr sports promotion group. She has two sisters and two brothers.

Athletic career

In 2010 and 2011, at the age of 14 and 15, Claudine Vita became the German student all-round champion ( block competition ), which made SC Neubrandenburg aware of her. She then trained almost every day in the Fürstenwalder Harbigstadion or the weight room of the KSV Fürstenwalde with training camps in the federal performance center in Kienbaum . Because of her speed, she came into the throwing area, with a focus on discus and shot put to compensate.

In 2012 Vita became German youth hall and German youth champion (U 18). In 2013 she took first place in the DLV U18 best list in the discus throw, and was German U18 champion and U18 vice world champion . In 2014 Vita was the German youth champion in discus throw both indoors and outdoors. In 2015 she won the German youth indoor and youth championship titles with both the disc and the ball. At the Junior European Championships in 2015 she was U20 European champion with the Diskus and vice European champion with the Kugel.

In mid-May, Vita exceeded the norm for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro at the Throwers Cup in Wiesbaden with a personal best, which she increased to 62.77 m at the throwing meeting in Schönebeck (Elbe) on June 3 . On July 6th, at the evening sports festival of SC Neubrandenburg (SCN) , Vita was the fourth German to also achieve the Olympic standard in the shot put. With her two best litters of 17.87 and 17.90 m, she increased her personal best by 77 cm. In both disciplines, however, three other German participants were ultimately nominated for the Olympics.

In 2017, Vita took 7th place at the German indoor championships with 16.52 meters. At the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Vita increased her indoor best performance to 17.83 meters in qualification, exceeded the 18-meter mark for the first time in the final and came in 5th with her 18.09 meters. At the German championships she took third place in the discus throw. On July 13, 2017, she won the gold medal at the U23 European Championships in Bydgoszcz with 61.79 m.

She finished fourth at the 2018 European Championships in Berlin behind her teammates Nadine Müller and Shanice Craft with 61.25 m. At the end of the year she led the German annual best list of the German Athletics Association (DLV) of women in discus with 65.15 m .

In 2019 she won the silver medal behind the Italian Daisy Osakue at the Summer Universiade in Naples with 61.52 m and came 9th at the World Championships in Doha . At the end of the year she again led the German DLV's annual best list of women in the discus throw, this time with 66.64 m.

In 2020, after three years of abstinence from the shot put, Vita reported back in the indoor season with 16.98 m at the end of January. On May 8, she beat the 61-meter mark with the discus in a training session under competitive conditions with 61.09 m.
