Claudio Micheli (born December 17, 1970 in Samedan ) is a former Swiss ice hockey player who played over 900 games in Switzerland's highest league, the National League A , during his 20-year career .

Career

Micheli started his career as an ice hockey player at EHC St. Moritz , where he went through all junior levels. The striker also received his first professional contract in the canton of Graubünden with EHC Chur , which was active in the National League B at the time . In 1991 he rose to the NLA with the club . Micheli then stayed in Chur for one more season before he was transferred to SC Bern. With EHC Chur he had scored 64 goals and 74 assists in 136 games.

In Bern, Micheli had a hapless season, he only got 11 points in 38 games. So he left SC Bern after only one season and signed a contract with Zürcher SC in 1993 , for which he should complete the next twelve seasons. In Zurich, Micheli developed into a reliable scorer who regularly exceeded the 30-point mark. The best season he had in 1996/97, when he came up with a total of 46 points.

For the 1999/2000 season he was appointed captain of the team and was able to achieve the fourth Swiss championship title in the club's history with the club, which has since been renamed ZSC Lions. In the following season Micheli was able to successfully defend the title with his team. He also won the IIHF Continental Cup with the Zurich team in 2001 and 2002 . In 2003 he lost his position as captain and instead had to be satisfied with the assistant captain. During his time at ZSC, he scored 173 goals and 254 assists in 617 games, for a total of 427 points.

For the 2005/06 season , Micheli moved on to the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers , for whom he scored 74 points over three seasons. This was followed by an interlude in the 2008/09 season at HC Ambrì-Piotta before he moved to the GCK Lions , the ZSC Lions farm team, in the National League B. At the end of the 2012/13 season , Micheli announced his retirement from active top-class sport.

Since his resignation, Micheli has been a junior trainer for the GCK Lions.

He made his debut in the Swiss national team in 1995. In 1997 he was promoted to the A group with the team (Switzerland automatically rose to host the A World Cup). At the home World Cup in 1998, Micheli narrowly missed a medal win with the Swiss team, after a 4-0 defeat against the Czech Republic they ranked fourth.
