Clayton Young (born May 12, 1969 in Medicine Hat , Alberta ) is a German - Canadian ice hockey player .

Career

Clayton Young began his career as a hockey player in the Western Hockey League , in which he was active from 1986 to 1990 for the Victoria Cougars and the Kamloops Blazers . In 1996 he moved to Germany to ERC Ingolstadt through various positions in the minor leagues . In addition, the left shooter ran in the 1996 season for the San Jose Rhinos in the professional inline hockey league Roller Hockey International .

In the summer of 1996, the Ingolstadt team, who had just been promoted to the 2nd South League , brought Young from the Chicago Wolves from the International Hockey League to the Danube. Young led the promotion team at that time to the championship in the 2nd League South and it succeeded in direct promotion to the 1st League South (then the second highest German league). This season the striker scored 59 goals and provided 65 assists in 45 games. Young's achievements in the 1995/1996 season were also heard by other clubs in Germany and both Ratingen and the Schwenninger Wild Wings tried to get him to join the DEL . Young, however, decided to stay in Ingolstadt. For the 1996/1997 season , coach Ignaz Berndaner appointed Clayton Young captain and the given goal of relegation was achieved. Again the player was the team's top scorer (55 games / 39 goals / 63 assists).

In the 1997/1998 season, ERCI and Captain Young qualified for the single-track Bundesliga 1. The 1998/1999 season was then rather disappointing for the ERCI and team captain Young and the playoffs were missed. Young was then to be given up, but the Canadian voluntarily waived a third of his previous salary and signed a contract again. In the 1999/2000 season , Young reached the final with Ingolstadt completely surprisingly. Only in the fifth and decisive match did the ERC on Brehmstrasse fail at traditional club Düsseldorf. In the finals of the 2000/2001 season , the ERCI defeated EC Bad Tölz and captain Young received the championship trophy in the Tölz ice stadium. However, the ERC was denied promotion to the DEL. Also in the following season the Panthers were able to reach the final, this time against REV Bremerhaven and the Center rose to the DEL with his club, but his contract was not extended. In 2002, the native Canadian received a German passport after six years in Germany.

Before the 2002/03 season, Young joined the EV Regensburg from the 2nd Bundesliga because his former coach Ignaz Berndaner worked there. After a good year in Regensburg, he received several offers from the DEL and finally switched to Düsseldorfer EG , where he signed a 2-year contract. Young played a good first season at DEG and was even allowed to play in the front row as a center forward. Due to a lack of prospects, he moved to the Hamburg Freezers during the 2004/05 season , with whom he reached the quarter-finals of the DEL, whereupon he ended his career.

Young now runs a golf course in the USA .
