University of Connecticut
The University of Connecticut (also known as UConn is known) is a state university in the town of Storrs near Mansfield , about 45 kilometers east of Hartford in the US state of Connecticut located. In addition to the main campus in Storrs, there are five regional locations in Groton , West Hartford , Stamford , Torrington and Waterbury . The law school is based in Hartford , and the medical and dental schools in Farmington . The university is particularly known for its research and teaching in family studies, health management, law, education, and dentistry. The university is one of the best public universities in the USA , a so-called Public Ivy .
history
The University of Connecticut was founded as the Storrs Agricultural School in 1881. After several name changes, the university was given its current name in 1939. In the 1960s, the medical school was established in Farmington .
Sports
The UConn sports team are the huskies . The team's mascot is a husky named Jonathan . The mascot was christened with this name in 1933 after the former governor Jonathan Trumbull . The university has been a member of the American Athletic Conference since 2013 . The Huskies are the only team in NCAA Division I to win the basketball title in both men's and women's basketball in the same year, which they did in 2004 and 2014.
The university's American football team primarily uses the Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field .
