Conquista is a Spanish municipality in the province of Cordoba in Andalusia . It belongs to the Comarca de Los Pedroches and is 96 km from Cordoba .

Surname

The name Conquista comes from Latin . The participle conquissitum means "to take something with arms".

geography

Conquista is in the north of Los Pedroches. To the north and east, the Rio Guadalmez forms the border with Castile-La Mancha . The Arroyo de la Fontona crosses the village from west to east and joins shortly after leaving the village with the Arroyo Grande , which comes from the south and flows about 3 km to the north before it flows into the Rio Guadalmez . The place is surrounded by bright dehesas , on which the Iberian pigs are fattened.

Population development

Conquista was founded at the end of the 16th century on an important trade route (Camino de la Plata) between Córdoba, the Meseta and Madrid . It is a small village. As in other areas, the population is falling. 379 residents currently live in the village (as of 2019).

Patrimonio artístico y monumental

Seven buildings are listed in the central catalog of the Patrimonio Histórico Andaluz : La Ventilla (Las Viñas), Las Parras I, Las Parras II, Los Prados I, Los Prados II, Peñascal del Sebo. They are characterized by granite portals. The modern monastery of Yacimiento Ermita de San Gregorio is 3 km away in Nava Grande.

The parish church Parroquia de Santa Ana was rebuilt in 1960 on the site of a previous building from the 16th century. An interesting baroque altarpiece from the Church of San Basilio in Cordoba has found its way into the modern building .

Culture

Various festivals are regularly celebrated in the village: The feast of St. Gregory (San Gregorio) takes place on the Sunday close to May 9 in the nearby monastery. The main festival is the Feria de Santa Ana on 26. – 29. July. And there is a Fiesta del Emigrante in August.

nature

The open pastures and the many smaller rivers, together with the Rio Guadalmez, provide an important habitat for wild animals. Especially ducks. Nutria are also found along the waterways .
