Pedro Abad is a municipality in the Spanish province of Cordoba ( Autonomous Region of Andalusia ). The place is located in the valley of the Guadalquivir river on the Autovía Madrid - Seville , about 35 kilometers from the provincial capital Córdoba .

history

At the time of the Roman rule, there was a community called Sacili Martialium on the site of today's location . The remains of a flourishing Roman city were discovered on the grounds of the Alcurrucén estate and are now exhibited in the Museo Arqueológico Provincial Sacili .

The foundation of the town of Pedro Abad related to Pedro Meneses , the Dept. ( span. Abad ) by King Ferdinand III. , and a picture showing the crucifixion of Jesus . Legend has it that this image, which the abbot brought from Galicia , worked miracles. For this reason, Ferdinand III. there a camp that was later converted into a hospital and directed by Pedro Meneses. A settlement gradually formed around this hospital, which represents the core of the present-day town. At that time, Pedro Abad was immediately subordinated to the crown as property of the city of Córdoba (Spanish realengo del Concejo de Córdoba ).

On September 10, 1982, the first mosque in Spain since the Middle Ages was inaugurated in Pedro Abad. It is the Basharat mosque of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community .

Pedro Abad is mainly influenced by agriculture. In the area around the village, the cultivation of grain , sunflowers , cotton and beets is largely carried out.
