history
The village was founded around 1480 as a hamlet of Hinojosa and there is no evidence of an earlier settlement in this place. During this time there has been a strong population growth. The name also comes from this time. Even then, the place came to the Los Pedroches district . In 1594 it belonged to the Tierra de Belalcázar in the Provincia de Trujillo . Then it came as a hamlet to Hinojosa del Duque and remained in this relationship until 1820, when it got administrative independence and was elevated to a small town . Local tradition says that the famous robber Juan Palomo hid in the village. During the Spanish Civil War , the 21st Regiment of the Republican Army was stationed in the town for a long time, because one of the last major offensives was launched from here: the offensive on Extremadura (ofensiva de Extremadura). The Moroccan regiment took over Fuente la Lancha on March 26, 1939, the place from the rebels, together with Hinojosa del Duque , Belalcázar , Villanueva del Duque and El Viso .
Attractions
In the village with its white houses, the parish church of Santa Catalina (Parroquia de Santa Catalina, 16th century) is particularly striking. There are also the Casas Dieciochescas , to which the Casa Partida by Juan Palomo belongs, and the Ermita de Santo Domingo . You can experience beautiful nature in the areas of El Charcolino and El Lanchar .
