Añora is a municipality in the province of Cordoba in Andalusia ( Spain ) and belongs to the comarca of Valle de los Pedroches. It is located at 624 m above sea level , north of Córdoba , about 90 km away from the provincial capital. In 2019 it had 1,527 inhabitants.

history

Añora was founded as a dependent village from Torremilano in the 14th century . It gained independence in 1553 and has since been one of the "Seven Villages of the Valle de los Pedroches ", together with Pedroche , Torremilano, Torrecampo , Pozoblanco , Alcaracejos and Villanueva de Córdoba . From 1660 to 1747 these seven villages were the Marquesado del Carpio . Marcos Rodríguez Pantoja was also born in Añora , the boy who lived alone in the Sierra Morena , in the Parque Natural de la Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro . The film “Entre lobos” (Among the wolves) by Gerardo Olivares is based on his experiences . On February 16, 1936, Antonio Muñoz Moreno was elected mayor of the Izquierda Republicana , an office he initially accepted, but gave up again in early 1939 to join the Republican Army . After the end of the civil war , he voluntarily surrendered to the authorities, was convicted and shot on November 9, 1939 in Parrorroya-Pueblonuevo del Terrible .

Añora is located in the heart of Los Pedroches , five km from Pozoblanco and three from Dos Torres . The Arroyo Batanero rises east of the city and flows north, where it flows into the Arroyo Milano just before the industrial area "San Roque" of Dos Torres . The roads CO 6409 and A3177 are the main arteries of the village.
