El Viso is a Spanish municipality in the province of Cordoba , Andalusia . It is located in the extreme north of the Valle de los Pedroches . It borders municipalities from three provinces: Belalcázar , Hinojosa del Duque , Villaralto , Dos Torres and Santa Eufemia (Córdoba); Guadalmez ( Ciudad Real Province ); and the municipalities of Capilla , Zarza Capilla and Cabeza del Buey ( Province of Badajoz ). It is the northernmost municipality in all of Andalusia. In 2019 the community had 2536 inhabitants.
Names
The name comes from Latin and means a high lookout point.
history
Since the 15th century it belonged to the Condado de Santa Eufemia, then under the name Casa de Don Adame , together with the cities of El Guijo, Torrefranca and Santa Eufemia, and was one of the strongest and most influential communities of the condado until the end of the rule in 19th century. In the Moorish times, El Viso was one of the last places to defy conquest, as evidenced by its castle Castillo de Madroñíz .
geography
The village lies on a hill at 577 m above sea level between the Arroyo Arenoso brook and the Guadaramilla river . The national road N-502 cuts through the town from north to south. The surrounding area is characterized by olive plantations and oak- lined pig pastures . The A-3281 road leads west to Hinojosa del Duque and halfway crosses the reservoir of the Rio Guadamatilla .

Attractions
The most important monuments are the parish church Iglesia Parroquial de la Encarnacion from the 16th century. It is made of granite and crowned with a tower made of red bricks. It has an image of the Incarnation, a 17th century monstrance from the Convento de San Albnerto der Monte and a granite font. Religious buildings are also the Ermita de Santa Ana , the Ermita de Santa Rosalía , as well as San Isidoro and Santo Cristo . The impressive Castillo de Madroñiz, which was rebuilt in the 14th century, dates from the Islamic period . Today it serves as a hunting lodge. The Casa de las Bóvedas dates from the end of the 15th century . a summer residence of the Señores de Santa Eufemia.
Festivals
The most important festivals are the Feria of St. Anna , the city's patroness, at the end of July, who is celebrated with bull runs . A mass is celebrated on July 26th, at which bundles of herbs are blessed and which is concluded with a procession.
On Easter Sunday, the Romeria de la Virgen de Vallehermoso festival is celebrated, which is celebrated with the Huerta de los Frailes .
The Reyes Magos (January 6th) are celebrated every four years with a scenic performance.
And the neighborhood of San Jose celebrates its patron on March 19th.
