Cornelius Eberhardt

Cornelius Eberhardt (born January 3, 1932 in Oberaudorf ; † April 12, 2011 ) was professor , general music director (GMD) and former president of the Munich University of Music and Theater and conductor of several national and international orchestras .

Career

Eberhardt studied at the Universities of Munich and Hamburg , the Munich Academy of Music and the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena . In Munich he became a member of the Rhenania fraternity in the winter semester of 1951/52 . From 1956 to 1960 he was Kapellmeister and choir director at the Städtische Bühnen Ulm , before he was first Kapellmeister at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich from 1960 to 1969 . During this time he taught as a lecturer at the Munich University of Music (1960–1969), was director of the Munich Philharmonic's symphony concerts for the youth culture organization (1960–1969) and conductor of the “Wilde Gung'l” orchestra (1965–1969). As general music director in Regensburg from 1969 to 1977, founder of the Regensburg Music School and his activity as honorary professor in 1972, he initiated the first “Bavarian Tonkünstlerfest” in 1973 after the Second World War .

For 25 years (1975–2000) he was Music Director of the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra ( Texas , USA ). Internationally, he was next to the post as Music Director of the "American Institute of Musical Studies" in Dallas (USA) and director of the "AIMS (American Institute of Musical Studies) Festival Orchestra" in Graz ( Austria ) (1978-2006) and Professor of of the University of Texas at Austin (1979–1980 and 1984–1987) and guest conductor of the Tonkünstlerorchester Wien (Austria), the “Romanian State Philharmonic” in Cluj-Napoca , the “ New Jersey Symphony Orchestra” (USA), the State Orchestra São Paulo ( Brazil ), the Lisbon State Orchestra ( Portugal ) and the “Romanian Brahms Festival” in Cluj , the “AIMS Festival” in Graz, the “ Gustav Mahler Week” in Toblach ( South Tyrol ) and the festival in Évian-les-Bains ( France ).

During his time as professor at the Munich Conservatory (1977–1996) and director of its opera school (1977–1996), Eberhardt was also President of this university and first chairman and permanent guest conductor of the Munich Symphony Orchestra (1996–2002).

He also had national engagements as a guest conductor with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra , the Gürzenich Orchestra in Cologne , the Northwest German Philharmonic , the Lower Saxony State Orchestra in Oldenburg and the “ Munich Biennale for New Music Theater ”.
