description

Habit, leaves, inflorescence, zygomorphic flowers with spur
Unripe fruits

The dwarf lark spur is a perennial herbaceous plant that seldom reaches heights of 5 to usually 10 to 20 centimeters. The spherical tuber is massive (not hollow). The upright, delicate stem has a scaly, pale lower leaf at the base , from the axilla of which a sterile secondary branch with up to two leaves often arises. The leaves are pale blue-green.

A few (one to eight) flowers stand together in a racemose inflorescence that has one to six leaves. The bracts are described as wedge-shaped and finger-shaped cut or hand-shaped lobed to split, broad-wedge-shaped, wider than long and almost completely covering the fruits. The flower stalk is at most a quarter as long as the straight spur. The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic . The pale or cloudy purple-colored corolla is 12-15 mm long.

The fruit cluster is slightly overhanging. The upright to protruding fruit is clearly compressed, two to mostly three times as long as the fruit stalk.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

Similar Art

In the dwarf larkspur ( Corydalis pumila ) and the middle larkspur ( Corydalis intermedia ) the leaves and the racemose inflorescence are very similar. In Corydalis pumila , the bracts are incised like fingers. On the other hand, in Corydalis intermedia they are oval-lanceolate and have entire margins.

ecology

The pollination is done by insects . The diaspores are spread by ants ( myrmecochory ).

Distribution in Europe

Occurrence

The dwarf lark spur occurs in Central Europe in Jutland , on Rügen , Usedom and Hiddensee , then again in the area of the middle Elbe and the lower Saale and can finally be found in from Steyr to Vienna , from Vienna to Gloggnitz and near Villach . In Brandenburg there are locations on the slopes of the Oder.

The dwarf larkspur grows best in loose, mull - and nutrient-rich clay soils . It inhabits light mixed deciduous forests and alluvial forests . It thrives in Central Europe in companies of the Carpinion or Alno-Ulmion associations.
