GDR swimming championships 1970
The GDR swimming championships were held for the 21st time in 1970 and took place from July 8th to 12th in Brandenburg an der Havel in the Volksbad am Marienberg , where the champions were determined on 29 courses (15 men / 14 women). The competition also served as a qualifying competition for the 1970 European Championships in Barcelona . With seven titles, SC DHfK Leipzig was the most successful team and Roland Matthes from SC Turbine Erfurt , who won four individual titles, was just like Lutz Unger from SC Dynamo Berlin (2 in individual and 2 in relay) the most successful athlete in these championships.
The sporting highlights of the championships were the new GDR records of Roland Matthes over 200 meters medley and Brigitte Schuchardt over 200 meters chest. Barbara Hofmeister set the GDR record over 100 meters back. Furthermore, the men's relay from SC Dynamo Berlin achieved a new GDR record for club relay over the 4 × 200 meter freestyle.
