GDR swimming championships 1985
The GDR swimming championships were held for the 36th time in 1985 and took place from June 4th to 9th in the swimming pool of the German University of Physical Culture in Leipzig , where the champions were determined on 32 courses (16 men / 16 women) . The competition also served as a qualifying competition for the 1985 European Championships in Sofia . With twelve titles, SC Dynamo Berlin was the most successful team and with Jörg Woithe , who won four titles, the most successful athlete of this championship.
The sporting highlight of the championship was the world record of Silke horns over 200 meters breaststroke. Uwe Daßler set new GDR records over 800 and 1500 meters freestyle and Ralf Buttgereit over 200 meters chest. In addition, the men's relay from SC Dynamo Berlin set a new GDR record for club relay over 4 × 100 meters.
