action

Georg Körner came to Bagan to prepare his wedding with the model Anna Pauli in Markus Winter's hotel. The hotel staff have little time to prepare, but it soon becomes apparent that the wedding may not take place at all: Anna is stuck at the airport in Yangon and the next flight may be canceled. She happened to meet the photographer Hendrik Felden at the airport, who was forced to take her to Bagan by jeep. The unlikely couple can't stand each other and so they spend the first night in separate hotels after visiting the Shwedagon . The next day they stop every now and then because Hendrik wants to take pictures. When taking a break, Anna accidentally starts the car rolling against a tree. The car has to be repaired and Anna and Hendrik stay one night in a village where a wedding is being celebrated. The night they sleep next to each other, but separated by an improvised curtain.

In the meantime, Georg met the skilled beautician Maria Schneider from Rosenheim in the hotel . Both get along very well quickly and discover numerous similarities. Maria helps Georg with the wedding preparations and both go on a balloon ride on which Georg overcomes his fear of heights. Markus' friend, the architect Frank Simon, and his wife Verena are not doing as well. Frank suffers from burnout syndrome , but refuses to admit the disease. He is supposed to design a new hotel complex for Markus in Myanmar, but has no inspiration whatsoever. One day Frank meets a monk who gives him rice but does not expect anything in return. Markus tells Frank that the monks only accept food as payment and only as much of it as they can eat at one time. Frank is fascinated by the simple way of life. He receives some life wisdom from a monk friend of his with Markus and in the end decides to go to the monastery for an indefinite period in order to find himself. Verena will be waiting for him.

Meanwhile, Anna has learned from Hendrik that he is looking for a certain vintage car in Myanmar to bring to a customer in Bagan. For this he will receive so much money that he can fulfill a dream - owning his own ship. On the last night before arriving in Bagan, Anna and Hendrik get closer, even if they blame it on the alcohol the next day. Hendrik and Anna finally arrive at the hotel in Bagan and Hendrik realizes that his client is none other than Anna's future husband. The wedding can take place in the Royal Palace of Bagan. In front of the altar, Anna realizes that she doesn't love Georg, whom she has only known for a relatively short time and who is almost twice her age, especially since he doesn't even know the color of her eyes at the altar. She hurries to the beach where Hendrik has just left with a ship. When he sees her, he jumps into the water and swims to her. They both embrace. Georg is disappointed, but is comforted by Maria. He suspects that she is the right one at his side and shortly afterwards proposes to her.

criticism

For the film service , Das Traumhotel - Myanmar was a "sentimental (television series) story according to the usual scheme, which at least offers fascinating original locations such as the historic royal city of Bagan."

The TV Spielfilm gave the film the worst rating (thumbs down), called it a "TV vacation monzette" and summarized: "Common: a nightmare overruns paradise".
