Date ( Japanese 伊達 市 , -shi ) is a city in Fukushima Prefecture in Japan .

geography

Date is east of Fukushima and south of Sendai . Date extends south of the Abukuma River in the northeast of the Fukushima Basin . The majority of the administrative area extends over the Abukuma highlands to the east .

history

The city of Date was formed on January 1, 2006 from the union of the small towns Date ( 伊達 町 , - machi ), Hobara ( 保 原 町 , -machi ), Ryōzen ( 霊 山 町 , -machi ), Tsukidate ( 月 舘 町 , -machi ) and Yanagawa ( 梁 川 町 , -machi ) of Date County.
