Dawn Heist is an Australian djent and modern metal band from Sydney that was founded in 2010.

history

The band was formed in 2010. In January 2011 she signed a contract with The Flaming Arts Agency . In March they went on tour through Indonesia , Singapore and Malaysia , which meant that the group played overseas for the first time. In the same year the group held a total of three national tours, playing in 33 cities. She also played with terror , The Haunted , Sybreed , Sepultura and Psycroptic and was on the bastard hard to see. Towards the end of the year, a music video for the song Nine Worlds was released , which is included on the 2011 EP Time Wave Zero . In 2012 the band played at the Hammersonic Festival in Jakarta in front of around 30,000 spectators and the Rock of Celebes in front of around 15,000 visitors in Makassar . Concerts with Sybreed and Warbringer were held for the rest of the year . The year ended as a companion for Mnemic on their first tour of Australia as part of the Whiplash Festival tour. In early 2013 the band began writing their debut album, which they recorded and produced on their own. This was followed by national appearances to promote the album. In October they went on their first European tour together with The Agonist , Threat Signal , Ferium and Mors Principium Est . The latter band replaces Arsis , who was originally intended for this tour but was unable to participate. The band also took part in the Euroblast Festival in Germany and the Waves of Metal Festival in the Netherlands . The debut album was released in November under the name Catalyst on Bastardized Recordings in Germany and on Bulletproof Records in Australia and New Zealand . The single Zenith had already been released in August . After performing in Sydney and Brisbane with Circles , the group ended the year with a concert in Sydney with Fozzy . In 2015 and 2016 Dawn Heist wrote the second album Yugen . It was released in 2016. In their career, the band has also played with Voyager , Secondhand Serenade and Klone , among others .

style

According to Brian Giffin in his Encyclopedia of Australian Heavy Metal, the band combines musical Chimaira traits with electronic elements in the style of Threat Signal. Since the debut album, the band is technically more demanding. Anton Kostudis from Metal.de placed Catalyst between Djent and Modern Metal, with the group occasionally also processing electronic elements. Influences from groups like Meshuggah and TesseracT can be heard in the songs . The music is well-versed and ambitious, but it cannot be long-lasting. Characteristic are down-tuned electric guitars and a technically demanding game of instruments and samples . The stanzas are rhythmic and catchy, but overall too uninspired and powerless. Overall, he summarized the music as "soulless plastic metal ", which Djent is often referred to. Sarah Punke also assigned Yugen to the Djent because, like Meshuggah, “[little] elegant transitions between the individual passages, seemingly chaotic structures [and] hardly any melody” are combined. As is typical for genre representatives like TesseracT, Animals as Leaders and Periphery , the band mixes “a razor-sharp technical game” with versatile vocals. In the songs, the group used atmospheric synthesizer sounds, "rough" played electric guitars and vocals that alternate between haunting screams and gentle clear vocals. However, the group can hardly distinguish itself from other modern metal bands.
