Declan Christopher John (born June 30, 1995 in Merthyr Tydfil ) is a Welsh football player who is under contract with Swansea City .

Career

Declan John was born in 1995 in Merthyr Tydfil, about 23 miles north of the Welsh capital, Cardiff . There he began his career with Cardiff City . On August 14, 2012 he made his professional debut for the club in the League Cup against Northampton Town . On January 5, 2013, his second appearance in the professional team against Macclesfield Town in the English Cup followed . A year after his professional debut, John first appeared in a league game when he played against West Ham United . John rose at the end of the 2013/14 season with Cardiff City as bottom of the Premier League . John ran under three different coaches ( Malky Mackay , David Kerslake and Ole Gunnar Solskjær ) in 20 games. After relegation he was rarely used under Solskjær and his successor Russell Slade . From March to April 2015 it was therefore awarded to Barnsley FC and from February to April 2016 to Chesterfield FC . In August 2017, the 22-year-old was awarded to the Glasgow Rangers in Scotland . In December 2017, John was signed by the Rangers. In August 2018, John was signed by the Welsh club Swansea City .

National team

Declan John made his debut on September 10, 2012 in the Welsh U-19s in a 3-1 loss to Germany in Kiel . For the U-19, John completed a total of eight games and scored one goal. In his last two games in this age group in November 2013, he acted as team captain against the Netherlands and Moldova . On March 5, 2014, he made his U-21 debut against England . It had been used nine times by 2016. A year earlier, in October 2013, John had already made his debut in the senior national team . In the qualifier for the 2014 World Cup against Macedonia , he was on the field for the entire 90 minutes of play.
