Democracy Direct ( spelling Democracy DIRECT !, short form DIE DIREKTE! ) Is a small German party . She took part in the 2019 European elections in Germany on May 26, 2019 , where she received 0.1% of the vote (25,530 votes).

The basis for founding the party was a student initiative with the aim of making democracy more lively and developing a new democratic concept. The party was founded on December 8, 2018.

For the Thuringian state elections in 2019 , the direct started with a state list.

Content profile

The party wants to work for more participation. According to the basic program, the party would like to work for transparency , direct political participation, strengthening of initiatives from the population, direct democracy and the promotion of young people to participate politically.

Democratic concept

The party states that its democratic concept is more important than its program : All decisions that are made in a parliament in which the party would be represented by MPs should be uploaded to the party's online forum and made transparent for everyone . All citizens should then be able to register in this forum, participate in the discussion and decide how the party's deputies should behave and vote in parliament. All citizens should be able to upload their own initiatives to the forum. These initiatives can be "liked" by everyone. The initiatives that receive the highest approval should be brought to Parliament by the MPs. In order to strengthen the participation of young people, it should be possible to take part in the forum from the age of 12. The party does not want to conduct its election campaigns in a personalized way, if possible, in order to focus on content.

execution

The party was represented in the Thuringian state parliament through the accession of former AfD member Siegfried Gentele from July 2019 until the end of the legislative period . Since September 25, 2019, citizens can register on the party's website and vote on the voting behavior of the non-attached Gentele. He is thus the first German MP to vote on factual issues in accordance with direct instructions from eligible voters. The party describes itself as "politically neutral" in the narrowest sense. The concept is similar to the “ delegate as proxy ” of the pirate party , which they have not implemented. Since the MPs of the major parties often do not know what they are voting on, the population could be given more decision-making and technical competence.

Only election promise

As soon as the direct sits in other parliaments, everyone who has an identity card can vote directly via an app on how the MPs should vote.

structure

The party has a federal association and regional associations in several federal states.
