The Bremen Democratic People's Party (short name: BDV ) was a bourgeois post-war party in the later German state of Bremen . It was founded in 1945 and joined the FDP in 1951 .

In May 1945, the Bremen Chamber of Commerce considered bringing liberal circles into one party. At first there was no agreement on a bourgeois unity party to unite the right and left liberals, which before 1933 had been combined in the DVP , the state party and the center , in one party. The BDV was constituted on October 28, 1945 as a liberal rallying party and was approved by the military government on December 7, 1945. On January 31, 1946, it had 350 members and was very important thanks to important people ( Apelt , Böhmert, Spitta and Wenhold).

Christian - Catholic and Protestant - circles also joined the BDV and tried to lead the party into the CDU . An application to join the CDU failed, whereupon parts of the BDV switched to the Bremen CDU, which was founded on June 6, 1946. In the summer of 1946, the FDP Bremen split up and was founded . On 11/12 In December 1948, all liberal state parties in the western zones merged to form the FDP , including the BDV, which hosted the FDP's first federal party conference in June 1949. In 1951, the BDV finally joined the FDP Bremen.
