German Democratic Union

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Democratic Union (short name: DDU ) was a left-wing political party in the Federal Republic of Germany .

The DDU was founded on September 24, 1955. It appeared almost exclusively in the Saarland . The greatest success in the state elections in 1960 was the entry into the state parliament of Saarland with the two MPs Erich Walch and Erwin Gieseking .

On March 3, 1961, the DDU joined the German Peace Union (DFU) as its Saarland regional association. It was previously the regional association of the BdD , which largely merged with the DFU. As a regional association of the DFU, but under the name DDU, the group also took part in the state elections in 1965, but failed to re-enter the state parliament.
