Dennis Swinnen (born August 7, 1993 in Lier , Belgium ) is a German - Belgian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Dresdner Eislöwen in the DEL2 since June 2020 .

Career

Dennis Swinnen, who was born in Belgium but also has German citizenship, first played for the U16 team of the Cologne EC in the student league. In 2008 he moved to Cologne's DNL team , where he played for the next few years. Both as a student and in the Cologne DNL team, he was voted the most valuable player of the season during this time. During the 2011/12 season he moved down the Rhine to Krefeld EV . Although he was initially used mainly in the DNL, he was able to establish himself in the Krefeld's Oberliga team in the following season . In 2013 he moved to Grefrather EG , which had been promoted to the Oberliga , where he only played one season. Since he did not receive a production license agreement from the Krefeld Penguins for the 2014/15 season , he then left the Rhineland for the first time in his playing career and joined the Lausitzer Füchsen in Weißwasser in the summer of 2014 , with whom he signed a two-year contract. In his first season at the traditional Saxon club, he had little ice age and three goals, he was able to develop further in the following year and already scored 12 goals in the 2015/16 season . So he ran on the ice for Weißwasser in the following season and was one of the top performers of his team from the start of the season. At the end of the main round Swinnen was both the best scorer and top scorer of his team with 52 points and 28 goals, reached the direct play-off qualification with the same and also landed in 3rd place in the league's goalscorer ranking with this value. This fulfilled a dream of the Belgian after an engagement in the highest German ice hockey league DEL and he switched to the DEL team ERC Ingolstadt for the following season . He made his DEL debut on September 22, 2017 at the ERC game in Schwenningen. After just one season he left Upper Bavaria and returned to the DEL2, where he was on the ice for the Bietigheim Steelers until the end of the 2019/20 season. Due to injuries, he was unable to develop his full potential there. In June 2020 he was signed by the Dresden Ice Lions .

International

For Belgium, Swinnen took part in the junior division of the U-20 World Cup 2013 in Division II.

Swinnen played with the men's national team at the World Championships in Division II in 2012 and 2014 , with promotion from Group II to Group II in 2012 .
